Eight JAS 39 Gripen planes of the Swedish Air Force are participating in the NATO-led effort, Operation Unified Protector, to maintain the UN-mandated no-fly zone over Libya. The planes are based at the Sigonella airbase in Sicily and are carrying out missions with an emphasis on airborne reconnaissance.
So far over 130 missions have been flown taking more than 72,000 images with the Gripen's reconnaissance pod, data managed by technology from Spacemetric.
